Mok – Brighton busk alternative

Over a long weekend in May, Brighton hosts one of Europe’s leading music festivals – The Great Escape. Founded in 2006 and owned by MAMA and Co, The Great Escape showcases emerging bands from all over the world. And, for the price of one single wristband, music lovers get to choose between 400 of them performing in over 35 venues across the city.

But if that wasn’t enough – and it’s not – there’s also the Alternative Great Escape. Taking place alongside the core festival, the Alternative Escape is an unrivalled platform showcasing a further 2oo bands and artistes in another 15 venues across the city, all for free. The Fiddler’s Elbow is one of the 2014 alternatives,  Mok headlining on the Friday night.

But even the Alternative’s not quite enough – after all, people need something to see and enjoy in the sunshine during the day, don’t they? Enter Mok and the alternative alternative Brighton busk. Have trolley – will travel. Mok trundle from unannounced venue to venue, performing a few tunes then moving on. Ever mindful to fellow musicians similarly busking and working with traders and business owners, the band showcase their growing repertoire of songs. Some back-catalogue stuff and some previews of what’s to come at their next big gig – Brighton’s ‘The Haunt’ – 31st May 2014. (Watch this blog for coverage of that).
